BRIEF BACKGROUND SUMMARY:
For ten billion years, the Morningstar ruled over Hell. For ten billion years, the balance was held; the Light Bringer in Hell, and the Creator in Heaven.

But when the King of Dreams came to the gates of Hell, seeking his lost helmet, Morpheus challenged the power of Hell, the authority of its ruler... and walked away unscathed.

Dream's words stirred the monarch. Lucifer heard truth in his words, and refused to be a pawn to anyone, least of all his Creator. On his command, Hell was emptied. Lucifer resigned from his post, locked the gates of Hell behind him, and passed the key to the individual who had begun the whole mess: Dream himself.

Lucifer retired to Los Angeles, opening a club called The Lux. There he stayed, until a war between Heaven and Earth began to brew, and unsettled the peace he had claimed for himself.

Lucifer first began a creation of his own, one for him to rule over, one that would be an improvement upon the last. This action, seen as the ultimate blasphemy by the Hosts of Heaven, brought Lucifer back into the game he had been trying to remove himself from. He discovered Elaine Belloc, daughter of the archangel Michael, and thus Lucifer's niece. After Elaine gave her life to save him, Lucifer returned to Hell to save her, claiming that he was repaying his debt.

When Yahweh stepped down from the Throne of Creation, it was Luficer who trained and tricked Elaine into taking over, and saving Creation from coming undone. It was a position that he would never assume for himself, preferring the unmaking of Creation over the prison of lordship.
